Confirmation

We spent this past week at school taking a standardized test. This week is always stressful and it is often difficult to see students not think or struggle through the problems and get the wrong answer. However yesterday I found myself struggling not to laugh aloud as I saw one of my students bubble in the wrong answer to a question, because it confirmed what I had already thought about him, that he is one of the most self-centered children I have ever had in a class. The question went something like this: Johnny and Jimmy want to read the same book at the same time. How can they best solve their problem? Then there were three pictures to choose from. The first had Johnny reading the book and Jimmy just sitting there, the second had them sharing the book, and the third had them handing the book to a little girl. After walking around the classroom I realized that everyone in my class had the correct answer, except one, that little boy. He chose the first picture, which is obviously his idea of sharing! I was appalled and amused all at the same time, which isn't easily done.
